Q: What made you choose to work at Make?

Working at a large Construction Consultancy, I very much felt like a “small cog in a big wheel”. When a job opportunity arose at Make, I felt the principles of support and nurturing that they value would provide me with huge potential in my career.

Q: Talk us through your journey with Make so far?

I joined Make in its infancy and have seen the company grow from 3 to 25 people. I have gained a Chartership with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and progressed through the company from Building Surveyor to Director, building a team of six building surveyors.

Q. What is it about the position/sector that made you select this career route?

I graduated uni with a geography degree straight into a recession and had to take whatever job was available at the time, which was one as a measured building / topographical surveyor.

What I enjoyed about this role was having a good mix of office and site work, which enabled me to see the country. I knew I needed to retain these essential features when seeking a new challenge, so I decided to undertake a Building Surveying Master’s Degree at Nottingham Trent. Upon successful completion, I started a new career as a building surveyor.

Q. What does a typical day look like for you?

Each day really is different; I undertake a combination of survey and project work, along with more commercial aspects of the business in terms of business development, client management and providing support to the team.
