Project Details:
The Conversion of the entirety of Royal Mails delivery fleets to new electric vans with a view of reducing their environmental impact as well as benefiting from the cost savings associated with switching over to electric. The fleet would be changed over to a standardised EV van which would require a redesign of the Yard layout which accommodates the larger sized vans but also is compliant with their Health & Safety operation procedures.
In March 2021, Adam’s team were approached to undertake a Stage 01 feasibility assessment program of 32 sites across the UK coordinating the design for the Mechanical & Electrical design and the Building fabric alterations required to retrospectively install Double EV charging points upon their sites:
- Upgrade existing electrical feed to the property.
- Upgrading the sites Electrical capacity and hardware including installation of substations where required.
- Provide design proposals for new client compliant operational Yard layout.
- Technical Building Surveying and Principle Designer services; Identifying required due diligence surveys i.e. Asbestos, Fire Engineer consultant, etc.
The reports were collated with associated high level costs and submitted to Royal Mail for consideration. Based on these reports a number of commonalities were identified which were as follows;
- Antiquated electrical systems on a large proportion of sites.
- Sites are often very constrained and congested given the fleet number requirements.
- Due to the constrained nature of the sites meant a retrospective installation would not enable for Health & Safety compliant operating layout design without significantly reducing fleet numbers.
