The Project
Make were approached to undertake a full refurbishment of the Reception area at NFU Mutual’s Regional Service Call Centre which included several physical security measures.
Through the process of leading design workshops with the Client, three design options with varying security levels were provided to the Client, along with budget costs and programmes to allow for an informed decision to be made. Through the design process, Make were able to provide added value for the Client by identifying additional improvements which could be made, for example, the installation of a draught lobby to improve thermal comfort within the waiting area without detrimentally affecting the internal layout. As well as providing a barrier to the external elements, by installing a draught lobby, we were able to improve access to wheelchair users by including an automated pedestrian door in place of the heavy double doorset which previously provided access.
To facilitate the works within the busy reception area, and in conjunction with the Client lead, a location for a temporary reception area was identified. All necessary services were relocated to the short term reception area, for example a post room and a reception desk for security staff. Staff were informed of the changes to the entry space by means of email communication, and signage was provided to ensure visitors were able to navigate through the changes. A temporary accessible parking bay was created to ensure disabled access was not hindered as part of the works.
