Make Consulting were appointed by Acorn Multi-Academy Trust, initially to assist securing CIF funding and then as Project Manager/Principal Designer/Contract Administrator for full roof covering replacement of the school.

The Problem

Prior to the Condition Improvement Funding application, Membury Community Primary School had multiple areas of water penetration throughout the main roof area. Water was coming into direct contact with the roofing timbers, weakening its structural integrity and causing internal water ingress in the teaching spaces below.

The Solution

With funding secured, Make Consulting produced detailed tender documentation and a phasing plan for the works. The project involved the full roof covering replacement to the entire building and associated lead-work and thermal upgrades.

The school is located within a small parish with a subsequent small and tight external footprint, making access difficult. Due to the rural location and the compact nature of the local community, the school had a right of way on a residential drive to gain access to the school and no parking provision. Naturally with the construction works due to take place, this would peak local interest and require community buy-in, to ensure the smooth running of the project.

Make Consulting addressed any local concerns and then proposed and implemented a robust and stringent action plan to ensure works were delivered with minimal impact to the close-knit community.

The Parish Hall agreed for the contractor to utilise a small section of the community car park to facilitate the works and for the school to utilise the Parish Hall for its teaching requirements during the works.

The Outcome

Make Consulting worked Collaboratively with the Contractor, Client, Local Community, and the Membury Parish Council to ensure teaching provision could remain fully operational throughout the course of the project. Through diligent project management throughout construction works, the project completed on time, within budget and with no adverse disruption to the school or community. As a direct result of the works, the school will continue to be a positive pillar of the community for generations to come.

Make Consulting managed all Client, Contractor and general public queries efficiently in order to achieve the key time and budget targets the school set.
