Hours of work: Monday to Friday – 09.00 to 17.30 with 1 Hour for lunch

Holidays: 25 days holiday (3 days for Christmas shutdown) + statutory holidays

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  1. Must hold a degree level qualification within a RICS accredited degree course or equivalent conversion qualification.
  2. Minimum of 5 years industry experience in a similar role
  3. Working towards or willing to work towards Chartered status. Ideally approaching final assessment, or holding RICS professional qualification.

Specific Desirable Criteria

  1. RICS Chartered (If not currently Chartered, see Essential criteria above)
  2. NEC4 Contract Experience

Senior Quantity Surveyor – Essential Criteria

  1. A willingness to undertake local and firm-wide business development initiatives and increase the development of the building consultancy service delivered from our Office.
  2. Proactive self-starter with good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively; both orally and in writing.
  3. High level of attention to detail and an inquiring mind.
  4. The ability to manage time effectively, prioritising tasks to ensure that deadlines are met.
  5. A keen team member with the ability to accept responsibility and work on their own initiative.
  6. Good client management and relationship skills.
  7. A good working knowledge of IT is essential, in particular with Microsoft Office packages.

Cost Management and Control

  1. Take ownership of Bills of Quantities, Schedules of Work and Tender Documents
  2. Experience of benchmarking and cost data analysis across a range of project types
  3. Analyse contractor pricing and lead in producing value engineering proposals
  4. Proficient in financial close out and final account negotiation

Contract and Legal Knowledge

  1. Deep understanding of JCT, NEC and other standard forms of contract
  2. Ability to draft and review contractual documents and tender packages
  3. Ability to advise clients on contract strategy and risk allocation
  4. Administering and managing interim valuations, applications for payment and final accounts.

Procurement Expertise

  1. Ability to select and implement procurement routes: traditional, design and build, management contracting etc.
  2. Experience of managing pre-qualification and tendering processes
  3. Evaluation and recommendation of contractor bids

Financial and Commercial Reporting

  1. Strong in producing detailed financial reports, cash flow forecasts and cost projections
  2. Ability to prepare accurate cost plans, budgets and feasibilities studies
  3. Skilled in identifying cost saving opportunities without compromising quality.
  4. Proficient in identifying, assessing and managing commercial and contractual risks.

Change and Variation Control

  1. Management of change control procedures and variations
  2. Negotiating and agreeing variation orders and claims
  3. Pricing and valuing of change and compensation events.

Construction Knowledge

  1. Understanding of construction methodology and sequencing
  2. Knowledge of current building regulations and industry standards
  3. Engage in site visits and contractor meetings to track project delivery and quality
  4. Liaise with multidisciplinary teams including design and planning

Tender and Bid Management

  1. Experience of managing tender processes and advising on procurement strategies.
  2. Preparing detailed tender documents and pricing schedules
  3. Post tender negotiations and contractor appointment assistance
