In 2016 Make secured £500,000 for the Academy to undertake recovering of the existing roof due to multiple leak points causing internal water ingress and damage to teaching spaces.
Initially, only Phase One of the Project was successful. Not being satisfied with the failed result for Phase Two, Make reviewed feedback from the ESFA and submitted a robust appeal.
Make and the Academy were delighted that the appeal for Phase Two was successful. Phase One lasted for 17 weeks and Phase Two lasted for 12 weeks.
Make carefully planned the works to ensure that the Academy could remain fully operational through the Project. Make were able to achieve the key time and budget targets set.
Make secured the Academy a further £400,000 for window replacement works. The main building contained original, single glazed, crittal windows, leading to poor thermal insulation, condensation and internal water ingress. There was a series of asbestos removal that Make managed during the enabling works of the Project.
The windows in question were replaced with powder coated, thermally broken, double glazing aluminum windows with trickle ventilation meaning that internal teaching environments could remain comfortable all year round.
As with the roof, the main aim of the project was to keep the School open during the works. As the windows could not be removed with children in Classrooms, a Phasing Plan was created, ensuring that there was adequate space to teach in the School.
