The Challenge
Prior to the Condition Improvement Funding application, Drapers’ Brookside Junior School was fitted with single glazed Crittal windows to their two-storey block. The Crittal windows presented a number of issues for the school. Not only were the windows thermally inefficient but also the frames had distorted so significantly they were allowing cold winds and rainwater directly into the building. These issues were providing a poor internal environment in multiple areas of the school, and the ongoing issues with weather tightness had begun to cause internal finishes to deteriorate.
The Solution
Once funding was secured, Make carefully planned the works to ensure that the school could remain fully operational throughout the course of the project. As the window replacement could pose a high risk to the children, it was imperative that a detailed decanting and recanting programme was produced for the areas affected.
The Outcome
Make worked collaboratively with the Contractor and Client to ensure the school could remain fully operational throughout the course of the project. The new windows and doors provided a significant improvement in thermal efficiency as well as providing a significant improvement to the aesthetics and internal environment. The school is now weather tight once again and the new installations have vastly improved ventilation and functionality. The project has been managed diligently, delivered on time and within budget.
