To help continue our professional development we attended a CPD Event.

On Thursday, we attended a CPD event hosted by an area technical manager at Sika Liquid Plastics which concentrated on how we, as Principal Designers, can manage the risks involved in a project.

With changes to the CDM Regulations now placing the responsibility of safety with the Principal Designer only, the specification must be carefully written in order to reduce the likelihood of any problems which may result in litigation and other related consequences. The main aim of the seminar was to help designers select the correct roofing system and understand the risks associated with different types of roofing systems to try to avoid this happening.

The day then moved on to a talk by the director of Third Frame Ltd, who specialise in architectural and construction photography through the use of drones. He discussed how they could help us by using these drones to capture aerial photographs of completed projects before showing us some of his incredible work.

After the seminar, we had the opportunity to watch a demonstration of a cold applied liquid flat roof waterproofing system being applied using a rapid solution, which dries in 20 minutes and is used for high traffic sites that are difficult to work on such as railways, and Decothane Ultra, a low odour system used for more sensitive sites such as schools.

Overall, the day was extremely informative and interesting as well as helping to continue our professional development – an added bonus!
