The Project
Following a condition assessment undertaken by Make Consulting (Make), we identified a number of required improvement works to the Academy, to ensure the best possible learning environment for both pupils and staff members. The works consisted of Roof recovering, Window Replacement, Boiler Replacement and Heating Distribution Replacement which were phased over a two-year period. In year 1, we managed the Roof and Boiler Replacement and in year 2, we managed Windows and Heating System Replacement.
The Challenge
Make managed the project throughout, from design to the project management of the scheme and because we were working within a SEND school, the project met many challenges from the offset. Firstly, the project was faced with very short timescales for delivery due to limited holiday periods. Where schemes were going to exceed the holiday period, term-time delivery had to be considered. Detailed phasing and safeguarding measures had to be considered in the design, programme, and management of the site to ensure the pupils well-being and continued learning was maintained at all times, whilst also delivering the intended works.
The Outcome
Make produced full design tender documents, including a stipulated programme of dates for phasing. Make identified critical areas, key dates, and co-ordinated the works in full collaboration with the school. The approach was considerate to the SEND environment, ensuring that both pupils and teaching were not affected. All projects were completed very efficiently during the Covid-19 lockdown environment, with no disruption to teaching and learning. We supported the Academy through every stage, assessing their needs and providing the relevant guidance.
Make worked with the client and the appointed contractors to ensure the works were completed within the allocated timescale, ensuring all the works were completed before the pupils return to school.
